Overall Pizza and Experience Grade: A

Ted’s receives the highest grade yet of any place in Athens so far. I think this is mostly because Ted’s embodies what is Athens. It’s weird, it’s fun, it’s unique, and it’s not afraid to be itself. You can get pizzas at Ted’s that you can’t get anywhere else in Athens or in our state, quite frankly. You can have a great pizza, all whilst listening to incredible live music, sitting outside next to a grove of bamboo trees while kids play in a sand pit to your left. All in all, I think Ted’s provides one of the most organic pizza experiences in Athens. Check out this cool video of Wieuca performing at Ted’s back in December…

Cons:

Overall Pizza and Experience Grade: B

Your Pie definitely provides a great pizza experience. From the most customizable experience, to the option to buy great craft beer with your meal, to the philanthropic nature of the company gives Your Pie a solid B. The reason the grade is not a little higher is simply because it lacks some of the indie culture associated with other pizza joints around Athens.

Overall Pizza and Experience Grade: B-

Transmet truly is an Athens staple which makes it unique. It fits into a more boutique feel with a great pizza. It is a great environment for a chance to sit down for a more extended amount of time with someone and chat and grab pizza; also it would be great if your parents are coming in town to have a place to eat. The only thing that turns me off about Transmet is the long waiting time to get your food, and a little bit more expensive price compared to other places around Athens.

LIttle Italy

Type of Pizza: Straight-up cheese

Price: $1.75/slice

Size: By slice or by whole pie

Time open: 11am-3am

Ingredients:

  • Tomato Sauce
  • Mozzarella
  • Italian Herbs
  • GREESE

Pros:

  1. Open until 3 am, so ideal for a midnight snack
  2. Fits into the classic, greasy pizza stereotype
  3. Fun downtown location in the middle of the madness
  4. Opportunity to order by slice
  5. Quickest and easiest

Cons:

  1. Louder eating environment
  2. GREASY pizza
  3. Definitely the most unhealthy option in Athens
  4. You’ll get your fare share of drunken patrons past 11 pm

Overall Pizza and Experience Grade: C+

Little Italy is a classic pizzeria in Athens that perfect if you end your night around 2 am. This is the classic eating place after checking out a concert at the Georgia Theatre or 40 Watt. It has a great piece of pizza BUT… it only received a C+ on my list. the service can be a little bod (understandably considering the customers they have to deal with), the company you’re around is usually a little bit incoherent, and you may or may not gain 5 pounds after you walk out of there covered in grease.
